Tri-Stat dX Mind Combat rules revision By Zegon Destructacon Mind combat occurs when two psyches clash through the use of a dreamscape, telepathy, or some other meathod of mental conflict. The rules of Mind Combat are similar to those of the real combat, except for a few differences. The initiator typically can withdraw from invading one's mind at any time. This isn't always the case, but certainly is the norm, not the exception. Typically, as well, if the initiator is hit in physical combat while in mental combat, the contact is broken and the initiator withdraws. By engaging in mental combat, you forfeit all your attacks, defenses, and non-combat actions. Extra attacks and extra defenses transfer over, so if you have level 3 extra attacks, you have 4 attacks either in the real world or in the mental world, but not both or any mix thereof. Likewise, if you engage in combat in the real world, you forfeit all attacks and defenses in the mental world. If you have the Telepath ability Mental Combat - Advanced, you may mix these attacks and defenses as you wish; You also always have at least one defense per round in both the mental and real-world realms. Normal special attacks, attributes, and equipment aren't used in mind combat. The character's attack value is determined by their Mind score plus any applicable skill (Either power usage (Telepathy) or special ranged attack, usually), while their defense value is determined by the average of mind and soul, modified by spiritual resistance or mental defense (whichever is higher). This does mean characters can easily have a higher defense than attack. Damage delt is equal to the character's soul plus mind stats in energy point damage. Massive Damage (Mind Combat) or special attacks with the Mental Combat ability may be purchased to increase this by even more. Armor and force fields typically do not cross over into mind combat, although armor and force fields optimized torwards mental combat operate at their optimized (and ONLY the optimized portion's) value. A character's 'status' in mind combat and real-world combat are completly different. If you 'pin' a character in mind combat, they aren't pinned in real life. Still, this restricts their actions significantly. Multiple people can engage in mental combat against one target as well. The target must defend against each attack individually, as if they were normally taking multiple defenses. Furthermore, nothing restricts a telepath from attacking another telepath mentally, even if both are engaged in combat with another third party. If a character is reduced to 0 EP by mental combat, they are broken and at the mercy of the other. The winner may end the life of the loser, leave them be, or if they have the Mind Alteration telepath ability, they may modify their opponent's mind. A broken opponent also automatically fails any Mind Control resistance roll they would normally get, except in extreme circumstances.
